Introduction

In these two clips with Jon Stewart of The Daily Show, Jon Stewart start out by telling the audience that some right-wing politicians are worried about America becoming Socialist - in fact - they have used Sweden as a scary example! First - check out these words

bleak - dyster
prone - benägen
ravaged - ödelagda, härjade
dispirited - modlösa
hauntingly - oförglömliga
comforted - tröstade
mindless drones - själlösa robotar
full release massage - :)
coddle - skämma bort

Watch the first clip

Answer the questions after it in writing and put the questions in Google Doc. The first set of answers can be answered in pairs.

1. When he visits the Scania factory, the reporter mentions some nice things that Swedes and Scania workers enjoy - what are they (this is just after the woman talking about "work is fun")
2. What does the Scania boss obviously misunderstand when they discuss massages?
3. What things are "bad" at Robyn's place (compared to 50 Cents' place), and what discovery, finally, makes the reporter completely freak out?
4. Based on this first clip, how do you think Sweden is represented to Americans? Do they get a positive image of Sweden/Swedes, and do you think it is a fair representation?
